Jaspal Sandhu is President and CEO of Hopelab, where he stewards Hopelab’s mission to advance the mental health and well-being of Black, Brown, and Queer young people. He leads a multidisciplinary team focused on uncovering knowledge and evidence, investing in innovators, and funding youth-centered solutions.

For more than 20 years, Jaspal has worked at the intersection of design innovation, social entrepreneurship, and health equity. Before becoming President and CEO, he served as Hopelab’s Executive Vice President. During his tenure, he championed key initiatives including the HBCU Translational Science Fellowship to advance Black youth mental health research, the Responsible Technology Youth Power Fund, and the Purpose Commons, founded in partnership with Cornell University.

Before joining Hopelab, Jaspal co-founded and led Gobee, one of the first social impact design companies in the world. Through work in 25 countries, Gobee drove the adoption of human-centered design across global health. As a professor of practice at UC Berkeley, he has pioneered multiple interdisciplinary learning models that combine culture and health, including the Fung Fellowship for digital health equity, and the first human-centered design course in any school of public health.

Jaspal holds a Ph.D. in Design from the University of California, Berkeley, and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
